Sean Shaw Jr
Wide Receiver
6'6" 210lbs
RS Senior Wide Receiver
Relative Size & Strength: Above Average
Speed for the position: Below Average
Athleticism and Skill: Slightly Above Average.
Production: Flashed at Iowa State. Low receptions and yards but high TD rate. Really good RS Freshman year.
Depth at Position: Prior to the late Spring signings I believe we only had 7 scholarship WRs. We now have 10 with the addition of Shaw, Corrales and Hobert.
Other: Sean is a good teammate and earned the trust of Brock Purdy. 2nd Team All-Academic Team on his resume.
After a stellar RS Freshman year at Iowa State, where he caught the third most touchdowns for a freshman in Iowa State history, injuries and a stagnant offense hindered Sean's development. Over the past three years, his numbers have failed to match his freshman campaign, although he still managed to score on15% of his receptions.
He possesses next-level size, but he needs to work on improving his quickness and change of direction. Sean has soft hands and has made several clutch plays at Iowa State, including a game-sealing touchdown reception against Kansas and Kansas State. In high school, he was dominant, but he had a size and strength advantage over his competition, and upon reviewing the film, his opponents seemed suspect to me. The Bobcats were in dire need of additional depth, talent, and size at WR, which Sean provides. However, the question remains: can he produce more at a slightly lower level of competition and within a pass-happy offense like Kinne's? I'll give Sean +/- 4.5 on touchdowns for the year and around 500 yards.
