Malik Hornsby

Quarterback

6'2" 190lbs

RS Sophomore

The Texas State Bobcats landed highly-touted transfer quarterback Malik Hornsby, who possesses the potential to change the legacy of the Bobcat program. Malik's speed is undeniable, with a sub-11 second 100 meter time in high school and being a member of one of the fastest 4x100 meter relay teams in the nation. Additionally, Malik's arm strength is notable, as seen in his high school highlights, displaying the ability to throw passes of 60 or more yards with ease. Out of high school, Malik was a highly sought-after prospect, with offers from multiple P5 schools and was rated a high 4-star, borderline 5-star player. He signed and played for the Arkansas Razorbacks, but due to inconsistencies in his game and inaccuracy throwing short to intermediate passes, he was unable to secure a starting position at the P5 level. In fact, many coaches wanted him to change his position to WR.

The Bobcats have a talented coaching staff in place, led by head coach GJ Kinne, a former star college quarterback and NFL player, and offensive coordinator Mack Lefwhich, a former D1 starting quarterback, who are equipped to improve Malik's mechanics and build his confidence. If they can help Malik reach his full potential, the Bobcats will have hit the jackpot. However, I have concerns about Malik's commitment to the team, following a confusing social media post in which he was wearing Nebraska gear and his general silence about Texas State. Without a 100% commitment, Malik will not beat out CJ Rogers or Ty Evans for the starting quarterback position. Despite these concerns, Malik's potential is undeniable and Bobcat fans should be thrilled to see what Malik can do.
