Joshua Easton
Defensive Back
6'1" 186lbs
RS Sophmore
Josh is a former 4-Star prospect out of Houston who had offers from multiple P5 schools. He decommitted from Texas before committing to Oklahoma, where he played very sparingly in 2 years. There are questions about his maturity and dedication to football. According to a quote from his former head coach on 247, “If you said, ‘OK, what was my 10,000-foot view of Josh?’ — and I've shared this with him and his family: like, he was just too silly,” Venables said. “He wasn't serious about his future. You know, great kid. You know, fun to be around. But wasn't focused and serious about being great. And he'll be the first one to tell you that.”
Josh possesses the physical gifts you would want in a defensive back, and there is hope that he can turn things around at Texas State. However, there is a lot of talent in the defensive backfield at Texas State, and it won't be easy for Josh. Maybe he has matured and is now dedicated to being great. If so, he has a chance to compete for a spot on the 2-deep roster.
Upate 2-7-2023 : Eaton demonstrates during drills he is one of the fastest players on the team Bret Huth (see sources). His initial low rating was based primarily on his lack of production during his college career, and we still believe he has much to prove. We increase his rating to 3.75 Stars.
