Jason Gold Jr.

Defensive Tackle

6'3" 285lbs Grad Transfer (2yrs remaining)

Jason is an excellent student and a highly recruited defensive tackle who chose Northwestern University over TCU despite having a long list of P5 offers. When I watched his high school film, I saw an athletic big man with the ability to make plays. However, his senior stats, though good, fell short of what I expected, with an average of around 3 tackles per game and 0.5 sacks.

Nevertheless, he got off to a great start at Northwestern where he saw significant action as a freshman. In six games, he made eight tackles with two TFLs. The following year, as a true sophomore, he was named the starting DT for an excellent Northwestern team that eventually played for the B1G championship. However, Jason was injured in the first quarter of the first game of the season and was sidelined for the entire year. The following year, Jason returned and saw action in six games once again, but his production this time wasn't nearly as good as his freshman year. In 2022, he played in three games, which allowed him to redshirt and retain two years of eligibility.

Some of the best highlight film of Jason can be found here , where he competes against B1G competition. He continues to show good athleticism and makes some plays. I've also watched other game film, such as Northwestern vs Maryland 2020 and his Hudl, and there is a lot to like, but also some areas that need improvement.

What I like about Jason:

  • He has good size and quickness for the Sunbelt.

  • He provides depth at a position of need for the Bobcats.

  • He showed flashes at Northwestern and earned the starting position as a true sophomore.

  • He's intelligent.

Areas that need improvement:

  • He needs to play more aggressively. He doesn't play violently enough like Levi Bell did.

  • He needs to shed blocks better, which is related to the first point.

My Rating:

3.5 because he provides needed depth and posses the ability to make an impact. Watch out if he finds a mean streak.
