Davon Martin
Defensive Back
5'11" 185"
RS Junior
There is a lot to like about Davon, although the available information is sparse. Most of my opinion has been formed from the film that I watched, as I couldn't find his JUCO stats or track times.
Davon's highlights were impressive, with nine interceptions and at least one pick-six. He showed an aggressive nature that I liked, and has a good physique - although MTSU listed him as 5'11". However, he appears to be a solid 185 lbs. As a converted WR, his ball skills were evident in the film.
In high school, Davon started as a corner for a Florida team that played for the 7A State title against perennial national powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas. Although St. Thomas won the game 28-23, Davon made a few plays, but did give up a TD on a fade to a taller player, but overall he showed promise.
Davon signed with Middle Tennessee State in 2020 and played in six games in 2021, recording 31 snaps and no statistics. In 2022, he played for Tyler Junior College and earned All-Conference Honorable Mention. Tyler JC did not provide statistics, but Davon looked good on film. He showed impressive speed and looked comfortable in man coverage, which the new coaching staff likes to play. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Based on what I've seen, I would give Davon a 3.5 star rating.
With our plan to go 12-15 deep at DB, I think Davon should be in the mix.
