Brock Riker
6'3" 290 lbs OL
True Freshman
Brock, TX
Brock Riker is a prime example of what makes Texas High School Football special. It's where my favorite college football team can go to a small town of about 25,000 and find a potential football star. The breadth and depth of talent in Texas are unparalleled, and that's why #TakeBackTexas is one of the most ingenious strategies I've ever seen to transform a college football roster.
Like all true freshmen, I don't expect Brock to get much playing time early, especially since he's not enrolling until the summer. However, he has the most upside of all the true freshmen to me. Why? Well, first, he plays a position I favor: offensive line. Second, he checks almost every box for me.
Measurables + Skill + Other = Rating
At 6'4", 290 lbs with a 4.7 shuttle time, which is excellent for a true freshman, he meets the requirements of a 5-star recruit on this site. When watching his games against Wimberley and Malakoff, I saw absolute domination as a two-way starter on the OL/DL, which is insane to me considering the amount of energy required to play those positions. He made me laugh with how he would just toss people around, sometimes pushing them from one side of the field to the other. Big or small, it didn't matter; he hit people with force. Look at how ridiculous his senior stats are.
Please keep in mind this big guy played both ways the entire game, which is crazy.
Playing DT/Nose Guard:
83 TOT and 16 TKLs.
5 Sacks and 13 Hurries.
Left Tackle:
125 Pancake Blocks
Just watch the first 3 plays of his Hudl – I can't help but laugh. Like a grown man playing with kids. No doubt in my mind he would start on any 6-A program in San Antonio, but unlike Jermy Jackson, our DE HS recruit, I haven't seen Brock against D1 caliber athletes.
Those are just 3 OL plays and doesn't include him mauling people on defense. Go watch his game against 4-A state semi-finalist Wimberley, which btw was Wimberley's most competitive game during the regular season. He was beastly in that game too.
I believe he would have started as a freshman during the Withers and Spav eras, but we're loaded with talent on the O-line now, so I expect him to start by no later than his 3rd year here. A long way to go between now and then, but have no doubt Brock will put in the work.
4.5 Stars!!
