TXST has a new candidate for the fastest player on the football team in Beau Sparks. He won several 100M sprints in high school with a personal best of 10.4. He lists his 40 time at 4.39, and although I'm skeptical of 99.9% of unverified 40 times that are listed by players, Beau is one of the few that I believe. On the football field, he was extremely productive in high school but received little attention from scouts, except from a couple of schools, including, unsurprisingly, UIW, which has one of the best player evaluation departments in the country. It's a mystery to me why he was so underrecruited in highschool. Who knows, but Utah Tech, Joey Hobert's former school, was able to sign Beau, where he led the team in receptions (74) and receiving TDs (7) and was named Freshman All-American and UAC Freshman of the year.
After watching Beau's film, there were some things I loved about his game and other areas where he needs to improve. To begin with, Beau is athletic and can make tough catches. Here are a couple of clips that demonstrate his ability:
Great body control on an outside shoulder catch.
The outside, over-the-head catch is one of the hardest to make in live action, and you can see Beau executing it here. Also, observe how he's running away from defenders, demonstrating his speed.
While my glowing evaluation might lead you to believe I'm rating him 5 stars, there are a few areas where I would like to see Beau improve, such as maintaining his footing on deep completions, reducing silly drops, better ball security, and enhancing his catch rate.
My rating for Beau is 4.5.
I expect him to start or at worst be an integral part of the rotation.
