Tyler Norris has the potential to develop into a quality D1 offensive lineman, boasting both the size and athletic ability necessary for success at the position. However, his development hinges on his willingness to accept coaching, and here's why. I was excited to watch his playoff game against Lone Star, where he faced off against two quality defensive ends in Tulsa commit Jaxson Lee and TXPB commit Luke Miller.
Unfortunately, WT White's offensive strategy involved avoiding blocking the defensive ends, opting instead for deception. No one was fooled, leading to Lone Star's 49-0 lead by halftime, exploiting White's struggles on offense.
The following clip shows Tyler Norris (LT), recognized as White's best offensive lineman, being coached to avoid blocking the defensive end and stand in open space. Although I'm being facetious, it was frustrating to watch this same play run multiple times with the same result. Would have enjoyed watching Tyler going at it against these DEs more.
Nevertheless, I did get to see glimpses of Tyler's ability during this game and on his highlight tape. In a lot of ways, he is the perfect project. He just needs to be coached up. Will he blindly trust the Texas State coaches to build him up?That's a question only he can answer.
